Color Me Empowered

Inspiring children, engaging community, through art.

It is my unyielding belief that art has the power to heal, redeem, and unite. In all my artistic endeavors, I seek to communicate this conviction.

The perpetuation of these ideals also motivates my art instruction. It is not only important that I communicate these standards through my own work, but also that I instill them in each one of my students.

Our Story

Founded in 2008 by Kristen Rice,

Our Mission

Color Me Empowered was organized in 2008 by Kristen E. Rice, an art teacher at Polk Elementary in Dallas ISD. We work with school-aged children in out-of-school-time and in-school programs in the Dallas area. We believe that giving children the opportunity to improve their immediate community will enable them to see the power of art and the ability within themselves to bring about positive change in their environment. Since our formation, we have completed over 30 public art projects in Dallas, and have worked with over 3,500 students.

Our Core Values

  • Creativity

  • Optimism

  • Kindness

  • Consistency

  • Self-Respect

  • Compassion

  • Cultural Sensitivity

  • Sustainability

  • Transparency

We invite you to take a look at this video of our 2020 2nd Annual WestSIDE Stories Art Festival, "Pegasus Takes Flight!"

50 artists paired with 50 kids and created 50 2-ft aluminum cut-outs of the iconic Dallas Pegasus! Those 50 Pegasuses are now installed in one installation on the back wall of the Color Me Empowered HQ building. Stop by and take a peek, and snap some selfies! Tag us if you make a post #colormeempowered #IHeartArt

WestSIDE Stories was hosted by Color Me Empowered & FGIII Fine Art Productions.
